Summer still has a little time to go, before school starts, the leaves begin to turn, we start harvesting apples, and the white hot light of summer turns to the gold of Fall. So, for our final barbeques, picnics, summer hikes, and so on, let’s drink beautiful French rose’ wines and toast the sunset of each gorgeous day.
After my last post on rose’, I checked with French friends who are French wine importers. Rose’ wine is the big hit this year. And I learned there are rose’ rules, specifically, that one should only drink rose’ from the previous year, and not anything older. So, please drink only 2007 vintages; although I have friends who will admit to drinking a LaMargue 2006 because it’s not too sweet.
The most popular rose’s right now are: a sparking rose’ from Alsace producer Hubert Laugner (Allimant Laugner Cremant D’Alsace Rose’ NV). Other impressive selections include: Domaine LaMargue, Domaine Ruet, and Romaine Galantin (Bandol Rose’). There is a new contender: Domaine de Beausejour.
A toast to France and summer!
