Paris Velib' Bike System - A perfect solution to the pastry problem

I love pastry and Paris provides pastry – also chocolate, also ice cream, also gelato. There’s a theme here. And there’s a problem . . . waddling about Paris is just not chic.

And there’s a solution. Work off the calories, avoid driving, and see the sights using the Paris Velib system. This is a “free” bike system. (Velib is short for velo libre or free bike). It’s not exactly free – you buy a day pass for 1 euro plus a charge based on time of use. The first half hour is free, with the next half hour costing 1 euro. The cost goes up to 4 euros every half hour.

There are about 1,451 bike stations in Paris – apparently, one every 900 feet. We should be able to get from pastry shop to chocolate shop, switching bikes as we go.

Can’t you just see it as a movie – something with Audrey Hepburn perhaps?
