It’s going to be a great summer to go to France and while you’re planning your trip, here are a couple of tips to consider:
1. Do get the Museum Pass

It pays for itself in just a couple of trips plus the sheer heaven of bypassing the lines is worth it. I remember the pleasure of being able to walk in and out of the Louvre and the d’Orsay as often as I wanted. Being able to visit one exhibit (the Egyptian wing in the Louvre, say) and then going out to lunch or for hot chocolate or whatever and then going back in – bliss. Do check out the evening hours at the Louvre and d’Orsay. The changing blues in the sky as the sun goes down, with the afterglow in the windows and skylights – plus a little glass of wine or something in the d’Orsay at the top . . .
2. Versailles is being renovated, so check for closures. Remember, the Paris Museum Pass works in Versailles.
3. Notre Dame has a modest dress rule. But no one here is going to wear shorts in a cathedral, right?
4. BREAKING NEWS: Go to Nice – no entry fee in any city museum. As long as you’re in the area, go to Antibes. The Picasso Museum has just re-opened.
Onward to France!
