Central Paris is made up of twenty arrondissements, arranged in a clockwise spiral starting with the smallest and oldest arrondissement, written as the “1st” arrondissement, which contains the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens.

If it’s your first trip to Paris, you’ll probably want to hang around the Seine in the low-numbered arrondissements. They’re marked in bold. the first is the most popular.
