Continuing our museum tour, allow me to present the Musee Jacquemart-Andre.
The Musee Jacquemart Andre is an amazing collection of 15th-18th Century art, from France, Italy and Holland, assembled by a very, very wealthy couple during the Second Empire. It’s housed in their amazing mansion near the Champs Elysees. The museum is operated by Culturespaces, a unique company which operates museums and historical sites throughout France. The Musee Jacquemart Andre is open 7 days week. The art is housed in the utmost luxury. This is no ordinary museum, however. The visitor also can see how the owners lived, as their bedrooms and private salons are also on display.
The Musee looks like this from the outside. Can you imagine living in a “house” this big?
Art from the Italian Renaissance is displayed in the Sculpture Gallery, Florentine Room, and Venetian Room.
As you can see, when they say grand, they mean grand, as in Grand Salon:
A sampling of tapestries:
A simple room full of paintings and a little furniture:
And, finally, what is billed as the “most beautiful tea room in Paris” (the dining room). The furniture here includes Louis XV consoles which are the serving tables, 18th Century tapestries of Achilles during the Trojan War, and a Tiepolo fresco on the ceiling. I think we should test this claim, visiting all of the tea rooms of Paris, especially Angelina’s, and draw our own conclusions, don’t you?
